OTT operators will get free version of signals provided by TV channels, and channels among other things will get access to data about the audience on OTT platforms and opportunities for monetization.
“Perviy Kanal” (The first channel) has sent an official letter to Samsung, LG, Apple and Google with a list of applications in which its signal is distributed illegally says,“Kommersant” with reference to Larisa Krymova, representative of “Perviy Kanal” and representative of technological development of SPB TV. The channel explained that they still didn’t block piracy of their essential signal in OTT environments (online services working on the network of operators) in the interest of the audience, because technology of replacing the pirate signal by the legal and the integration procedure has not been debugged.
Now “Perviy Kanal” (“The First channel”) invites the partners to use a technological solution developed jointly with NSK (partner of National Advertising Alliance, NDA), and SPB TV. OTT operators will have to apply for the organization of the broadcast of a legitimate OTT version through the site of “Perviy Kanal” until February 10 and begin work on the integration of the proposed solution, said Ms. Krymova.
OTT operators will get free versions of signal provided by TV channels, in particular, Full HD, for broadcast in the network according to the principle of “one window”; channels will get access to the data about the audience for OTT-platforms, control over distribution of content, decrease of its illegal distribution, as well as opportunities for monetization. It is reported that this solution has already been applied by “Perviy Kanal” (The First Channel), “Russia 1” “Russia 24”, “Fifth channel”, also the integration of the package of TV channels “Mir” is completing. Ms. Krymova adds that the solution is used by OTT operators such as Megogo, Videomore, Peers.TV and others, and telecommunications and satellite companies, including, for example, “Rostelecom”, MTS, “MegaFon”, “VimpelCom”, “Tricolor TV”, “NTV-Plus”.
According to NSC analytical center, Internet audience which does not cross with TV and interested in TV viewing, is 7.4 million people.
