On March 28, Moscow hosted the Congress “Blockchain-2018”. Nikolay Suvorov, head of OMD OM Group project office, visited the event and shared his impressions.
Section “Blockchain for media industry: opportunities and prospects” was held at the International Trade Center on Presnenskaya embankment in framework of the Congress “Blockchain 2018”. Despite the fact that Eugene Solomatin, organizer of the section, collected almost exclusively media audience, the conversation about advertising took most of the speakers` time. At the same time, despite great financial relevance of the topic, the hall has quite intimate atmosphere that contributed to the discussion format. So, this is what I like to share with you:
1. Anton Petukhov, Technology Director of NSK, said that his company is developing its own blockchain platform for billing, authentication and transactions on smart contracts. We remind that NSK is the largest technology company in Russian advertising market (in terms of technologies for advertising on TV), which, for example, develops VIMB product.
2. Konstantin Belyakov, Vice-President of Elecard Group (developer of professional software for video processing), presented model of broadcasting monitoring system based on blockchain that allows to clearly identify creator of the content, prevent unauthorized distribution of content, control the number of views, verify the fact of receiving specific content from a particular broadcaster, control the quality of content for distribution.
3. John Riggins, head of international operations at BTC Inc, told about “po.et”, service where authors can assign intellectual property rights, sell their works or otherwise regulate their use. This is the use of blockchain in copyright field. By the way, Vladimir Filippov presented similar solution with Russian roots — “Heaven11” Platform
4. Valery Krylov, General Director of Sinterra Media (logistics operator of media content), during the discussion constantly urged all participants “not to make their own blockchain standard”, because incompatibility of standards eliminates the advantages of technology. Almost all participants agreed to that. Another key idea, which received a great response: the impossibility of immediate earning big money on blockchain for media “here and now”, was voiced by Anton Petukhov from NSK.
Eugene Solomatin, host of the session and head of MBA-Telecom program (MIRBIS business school), summed up the results and suggested to continue the conversation about the possibilities of blockchain in media industry within the framework of Connected Future: Transformation of TV and Media Forum which will be held on April 17 at Holiday Inn on Suschevsky Val.
