Online cinema Okko, working solely on paid monetization models, collected statistics for 2017 and found the most popular movies, cartoons and TV shows. According Okko, the total number of views of content in 2017, increased by 133% compared to the previous year, and the number of viewing hours has exceeded 60 million.

Rapid growth of interest of Russians to local content was unexpected in the past year: Russian movies were watched on 63% more than at the end of 2016. The most popular film was “The Last Hero”(Posledniy Bogatyr), the most popular series was “Game of Thrones”. Young viewers watched “the Baby boss” the most in 2017.

The highest number of views is in Moscow (24.8%), followed by St. Petersburg (7.9%) and Moscow region (5.3%). The main platform for watching remain Smart TV (89.85%).

According to the online cinema Okko, the most popular movie of 2017 was “The Last Hero” (Posledniy Bogatyr). Second place in the top took Russian film “Gogol. The beginning” and the third was “John Wick 2” with Keanu Reeves in the main role. Interest for the local movies increased significantly: views of Russian content increased by 63% in 2017. Films produced in Russia took good places in the list of the most popular releases in 2017. The top five also includes movies “Time of the First” (Vremya Pervih) of Dmitry Kiselyov (4th place) and “Attraction” (Prityazhenie) by Fyodor Bondarchuk (5th place).
