VIDEO SERVICES SHOWED THE BEST DYNAMICS OF THE GROWTH OF INCOME IN THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY

In 2017, the total income of the Russian entertainment industry grew by 2% and amounted to 1.75 trillion rubles. “Kommersant” writes about it with reference to a preliminary assessment of the InterMedia Agency.

The research of InterMedia is based on data of the analytical companies, foundations, industry associations and expert estimates. It includes the income of sectors of the economy in which the determining factor of consumption is access to the results of creative activities, including concerts, shows, movies, sale of physical units of music and video content, legal and illegal audio-visual services, media.

The best dynamics among segments of the entertainment industry was shown by legal video services: during the year their income increased by 20% and amounted to 13.6 billion rubles, said the study with the reference to data from J’son&Partners. The income of legal music services rose from 2.4 billion to 2.6 billion.

In 2017, in Internet not only income of legal services was growing, but the pirate sites too, noted in InterMedia. Traffic of illegal audio services rose from 2 billion to 2.1 billion. The income of sites with illegal content increased from 2.6 billion to 2.8 billion. Data were obtained on the basis of estimates of the number of sites, average attendance and estimated income from advertising, said Evgeniy Safronov, the General Director of InterMedia. The indicators were compared with similar studies, in particular of Group-IB, he added.

Safronov connects the growth of the income of pirates and the development of the Internet: growth of new subscribers of the operators observed primarily in the younger age groups who actively use the creative content.

Physical media sales continue to decline: income from media music content amounted to 660 million against 682 million rubles in 2016, video content — 440 million against 500 million rubles a year earlier. Also sales of electronic equipment fell — from 611,2 billion to 575,2 billion rubles.

Income from billboard events, including concerts, shows and performances increased from 82 billion to 91 billion, according to InterMedia. Income from corporate, private and public events increased from 23 billion to 25 billion rubles.
